AI automation for e-commerce and online stores
For online stores, AI automation means handling the repetitive parts of selling online automatically. That includes answering "where is my order?", recovering abandoned carts, writing product descriptions, flagging low stock and routing returns, so the team can focus on products, suppliers and customers who need a person.
Common problems we see
- The same order-status, sizing and delivery questions arrive all day across email, Instagram, WhatsApp and the website.
- Abandoned carts get a generic email, or none at all.
- Product descriptions, alt text and SEO titles are written one by one, or not at all.
- Stock-outs are discovered when a customer complains.
- Returns and refunds are handled through long email threads.
What we automate
Order-status assistant
Customers ask in chat, WhatsApp or DMs. The assistant looks up the order in Shopify or WooCommerce and replies with live status and tracking, and creates a ticket only for real problems such as damage or delays past the promised date.
Smarter cart recovery
A sequence that responds to why people leave. For example, a reminder that answers the shipping-cost question, a size-guide message for apparel, and a WhatsApp nudge only for shoppers who opted in.
Product content pipeline
New products get draft descriptions, bullet points, SEO titles, meta descriptions and image alt text from your specs and brand voice, queued for a quick human check.
Inventory and supplier alerts
Low-stock alerts based on sales speed rather than a fixed number, with a draft reorder email to the supplier ready to approve.
Returns triage
A returns form that checks eligibility against your policy, generates the label, and sends the case to a person only when it's outside policy.
Review requests and replies
Review requests timed to delivery, and AI-drafted replies to reviews for a person to approve, with negative reviews escalated immediately.
A worked example: “Where is my order?”
For many online stores, order-status questions are one of the biggest sources of support messages. Here’s how we automate them end to end:
- A customer messages on WhatsApp, Instagram or your website chat: “Has my order shipped?”
- The assistant asks for an order number or the email used at checkout and verifies it matches.
- It reads the order and fulfilment status from your store and the tracking status from the carrier.
- It replies in plain language: “Your order shipped Tuesday with DHL. It’s in transit and due Friday. Here’s your tracking link.”
- If the parcel is late or the tracking shows a problem, it apologises, opens a ticket with all the details and tells the customer when a person will reply.
You get a weekly summary covering how many questions were handled automatically, how many were escalated and why. That tells you which delivery problems to fix with your carriers.
Running costs to expect
You pay for the AI model per message (usually a fraction of a cent to a few cents per conversation, depending on the model), any WhatsApp conversation fees from Meta, and your automation platform. We estimate these against your real order volume before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI chatbot connect to Shopify or WooCommerce?
Yes. Both have APIs, so an assistant can look up orders, products and stock levels in real time. We give the assistant read access to what it needs and, where it takes actions such as starting a return, we limit it to specific, safe operations.
Which e-commerce tasks should I automate first?
Start with the highest-volume repetitive question, which is usually order status, and with abandoned-cart recovery. Both are easy to measure. Product content and inventory alerts are good second steps.
Will automation make my store feel impersonal?
Done well, it does the opposite. Customers get answers in seconds instead of hours, and your team has more time for the conversations that need a person, such as complaints, custom orders and loyal customers.
